Does using another NIC actually “secure” the I…

I would very much like to be able to use an Intel CPU in my new machine, Sadly AMD just can’t keep up in terms of performance. I’m concerned about the ME though (obviously). From what I have read, It is only remotely accessible using the onboard NIC. So if I was to use another NIC plugged into a PCI slot, or a WIFI card plugged into an m.2 slot, would it still be remotely accessible?

I know anyone with physical access can still use it, but lets be honest, with physical access and enough time any system can be compromised, not just through the ME. I just want to know if this adequately secures it, or if I will need to purchase a specific NIC or if some of them retain the ME functionality.
