Let’s talk about De-googling a Google phone (P…

Sounds ironic and a little counter-intuitive, but Google branded phones are easily customizable, pretty good products, and have good development communities. So… Lets talk about the pros and cons and the trade-offs of running a custom ROM sans google on a google phone. I have some questions but I’m more interested in this being a broad discussion. But to get things started:Are there features particular to google phones (not android phones in general) that you miss out on when you don’t use any GApps? What apps do you find it hardest/not worth it to go without (e.g. google camera or maps)Have you found ways to limit or neuter the Google Apps you continue to use?Does going with an AOSP build or a custom ROM mean you lose out on hardware optimizations or can’t take advantage of hardware features of pixel phones? How have you approached the trade-off of reasonable privacy vs usability/convenience of your google phone?Don’t feel limited to these questions or discussion points. I want to have an open, thoughtful, and reasonable debate, but lets keep things civil, and try to keep blood pressures low, avoid logical fallacies, and avoid conjecture or feeling to sure of ourselves :)Also, if you want to check out my companion post in a much less privacy and tech savvy subreddit see my post over at /r/android feel free to participate but don’t be a dick, don’t be disrespectful and don’t shut people down (be gentle the general public is still rather naive/uninformed regarding privacy) 🙂
