I was thinking the past days again how I could improve my technical setup when its comes to privacy. So I was thinking that a currently owned iPhone is obviously not the best idea for being serious about it BUT:I was really trying to look for alternatives but when I am choosing a system I have no guarantee how long the independent developers are supporting this LineageOS distribution. I am using Firefox all the way (all the well-knows anti-tracker addons), Thunderbird / Canary Mail, Posteo for Mails and sync, Nextcloud and self-hosted NAS storage, no so-called “smart devices” except the phone. Now I am using iOS and I really trust Apple with their latest statement towards privacy. They are not selling data, they are having no manipulative platforms like social media and they defend their technology against US agencies which want to break the iPhone encryption. I am not sure if I am naive about this.. I don’t want to buy a Android phone that is having in-house update with 2 years maximum. So the planet earth is getting harmed or I have to live with security breaches on my phone. Apple is supporting the phones at least for around 4-5 years, is known for a selective app store, that is not accepting backdoor apps like on Google Play Store and is caring about the environment (look at the Greenpeace Study about Smartphones).I know this text might be little bit confusing or diffuse but it’s just my two cents why I am staying with iPhone for now. Would love to hear the opinion of others on this topic, what smartphone setup they are using and WHY they do it like that. Cheers!
